Listen to ‘Ontogenesis,’ the new album from Jacob Rudin

Jacob ‘NTHNL’ Rudin, the flutist and multi-instrumentalist known for his ethereal soundscapes, has released his most profound work to date with Ontogenesis. Following the success of his debut album Cosmic Flute and its sequel Cosmic Flute Rides Again, as well as numerous other new age and ambient releases, Ontogenesis delves deep into the mind, combining musical artistry with scientific exploration.

Ontogenesis is the third installment in Rudin’s Tranquility Studies series, which began in 2020 as a response to the pandemic. The series aims to create music that promotes peace and introspection through the use of electronic binaural frequencies and a variety of instruments. These soundscapes employ brainwave entrainment, a technique that uses specific frequencies to induce a meditative state.

As a dedicated meditation practitioner and sound bath performer in NYC, Rudin’s ambient work is deeply personal and healing. His collaboration with yoga instructor Leslie Graves on Ontogenesis takes this healing aspect to new heights. The album was initially conceived as a meditation on the body, with each track corresponding to one of the chakras, from the root to the crown, and even extending to extra-corporeal chakras. Graves provided keywords for each chakra, which Rudin then interpreted through his piano compositions.
