  • Missy Elliott’s lawyer breaks silence on songwriting lawsuit settlement

    [media-credit name=”Derek Blanks” link=”https://www.vibe.com/music/music-news/missy-elliott-honored-national-museum-african-american-music-1234757140″ width=910 align=”center”][/media-credit]

Hip-Hop icon Missy Elliott has officially settled her protracted legal battle with music producer Terry Williams—just moments before jury selection began in a Philadelphia federal courtroom on August 22, 2025.

Williams, who initially sued Elliott in 2018, claimed he had co-written four songs on Sista’s 1994 album ‘4 All the Sistas Around da World’ but was omitted from the songwriting credits. He also attempted to claim credit on Aaliyah’s 1996 single ‘Heartbroken’, but US District Judge Nitza I Quiñones Alejandro dismissed that allegation in August 2024, ruling it was barred by the statute of limitations.

Despite denials from both sides and anticipation of a courtroom showdown, Elliott’s attorney, Mike Trauben, confirmed that “no money was paid in connection with any of Terry Williams’ claims”, though a “small sum” was paid to acquire beats Williams created that Elliott ultimately used in her songs. Additionally, Elliott’s personal writings and music in Williams’ possession were returned to her upon settlement.

The lawsuit, which spanned nearly seven years, also named producer Timbaland and major record labels—Elektra, Atlantic, Warner Music Group, and Reservoir Media—but many of those claims were dismissed or stayed during the litigation.

By resolving the dispute just before the trial, Missy Elliott avoids a juried reckoning over her early career contributions and preserves her legacy as one of Hip-Hop’s most influential creatives.

    [media-credit name=”GQ” link=”https://www.gq.com/story/drake-certified-lover-boy-style” width=1080 align=”center”][/media-credit]

Billboard has officially crowned Drake as the #1 R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the 21st Century, recognising his unrivalled impact on both Rap and R&B since his chart debut in 2009. Drake’s dominance is backed by numbers few artists in history can rival: Thirty #1 singles on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, 15 #1 albums, and 67 weeks atop the albums chart. On top of that, he holds the record for the most top-10 hits (135) and most total entries (355) on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. These figures not only underline his prolific output but also highlight a consistency that stretches across more than a decade.

What sets Drake apart is his ability to bridge genres. From introspective R&B ballads like ‘Marvins Room’ to arena-ready Rap anthems such as ‘God’s Plan’, he has blurred the lines between Hip-Hop and R&B in ways few before him managed. His versatility has made him a streaming powerhouse, shaping playlists, radio rotations, and global soundscapes.

Billboard’s list also reflects the broader landscape of modern music. Drake edged out titans such as Beyoncé (#2), The Weeknd (#3), Chris Brown (#4), Usher (#5), Lil Wayne (#6), JAY Z (#7), Rihanna (#8), Eminem (#9), and Alicia Keys (#10)—a mix of singers, rappers, and genre-shaping icons.

Beyond accolades, the milestone underscores Drake’s cultural influence. His collaborations have uplifted younger artists, he has set streaming records with nearly every release, and his sound continues to define a generation of Hip-Hop and R&B fans worldwide. In short, Drake isn’t just topping charts—he’s rewriting how success is measured in the 21st century.

Just days earlier, Kravitz was seen in Paris, sparking rumours amid her promotional tour for ‘Caught Stealing’ alongside Austin Butler. Meanwhile, Styles—who split from Taylor Russell in May 2024—has been mostly low-profile since wrapping his “Love On Tour” run. Fans have taken to social media to react—some thrilled by the unexpected pairing, others scrutinizing the dynamics, given Kravitz’s close friendship with Styles’ ex, Taylor Swift. Despite the buzz, neither party has confirmed anything, and their representatives have yet to respond.

For now, this Roman rendezvous—real or staged—has captured the world’s imagination, blending gorgeous scenery with celebrity intrigue… and leaving fans yearning for the next chapter.

  • Listen to Capital Cities’ newest track ‘Late to School’

Their music often marks personal shifts for me. Here’s to another adventurous decade ahead, maybe?

    [media-credit name=”Spotify” link=”https://open.spotify.com/track/3bhlZfIGlk3vV98ITMh8MT?si=34f40154498f4715″ width=640 align=”center”][/media-credit]

In time for the school year, American Indie Pop duo Capital Cities has released their latest track, ‘Late to School’ today. On the self-produced composition, Ryan Merchant (vocals, keyboard, guitar) and Sebu Simonian (vocals, keyboard) enchantingly sing about being tardy to school, making up the rules, and not wanting to be stuck in a system that keeps them from being spectacular. Knowing their background, or foundation, as catchy songwriters who wrote jingles, the song sounds like it was probably made for a young person’s cartoon series.

It’s been nearly five years since we covered any of the band members, but we’re back in full swing with support.

If you didn’t know, Capital Cities is the first post on this version of our website, dating back to 2011 when we had the awesome opportunity to spend time with the band and interview them before the release of their classic debut album, ‘In a Tidal Wave of Mystery’.

  • Kesha comes out as omnisexual on Feeld dating app

    [media-credit name=”Instagram” link=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DMHA8YqOogg/?hl=en&img_index=1″ width=1080 align=”center”][/media-credit]

On August 19, 2025, Pop superstar Kesha opened up about her sexuality on the dating app Feeld, identifying as omnisexual—a revealing departure from mainstream labels like pansexuality. Whilst both orientations embrace attraction to all genders, the distinction lies in awareness and preference.

For Kesha, being omnisexual isn’t just about being open to every gender—it’s about noticing a person’s gender and letting it animate her attraction. Feeld’s Creative VP, Andrew Peet, even reported an “uptick” in members identifying similarly after Kesha’s update. In their words, pansexual individuals are “gender-blind” in attraction, whereas omnisexual individuals are “gender-aware”, with that awareness potentially enhancing the connection.

This isn’t the first time the term has been used publicly: Singer Sophie B Hawkins (of ‘Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover’) openly identified as omnisexual back in 1992, and even the Doctor Who character Captain Jack Harkness is canonically omnisexual.

Though subtle, this distinction invites broader conversations about how sexual attraction can vary—not just in scope, but in nuance. As sexuality language evolves, identities like omnisexuality and pansexuality help articulate very personal experiences of attraction that go beyond simple labels.

  • Adrienne Bailon-Houghton faces backlash after praying for husband over past infidelity

    [media-credit name=”Yahoo Entertainment” link=”https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/articles/adrienne-bailon-blasted-admitting-praying-183049726.html” width=1242 align=”center”][/media-credit]

Actress and former ‘Cheetah Girls’ star Adrienne Bailon-Houghton is drawing criticism online after revealing that she prayed for her husband, Gospel singer Israel Houghton, upon learning about his previous infidelity. The report, published yesterday on Yahoo Entertainment, notes that many viewers took issue with Bailon’s approach, with some expressing incredulity that faith alone could remedy deeply personal relational pain.

The backlash speaks to broader frustrations: Detractors argue that publicising matters of faith in the context of forgiveness can appear performative or insensitive to those hurt by betrayal. Some commenters on platforms like Reddit underscored this sentiment. One wrote with weary sarcasm:

“A prayer ain’t gonna fix him. You found all that mess out and STILL wanted him?” Another observed, “God always knew. It’s so weird to see a Christian get that close to saying the quiet part out loud”.

The criticism isn’t limited to disapproval of Bailon-Houghton’s decision to pray—it also reaches into the optics of celebrity spirituality. For many, faith is a private sanctuary, not a public apology. The perceived disconnect between the sacred and the spotlight fuels the reaction—prompting online audiences to question whether spiritual expressions in the public eye are authentic or a form of virtue signalling.

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkGRBEBgSZA&h=315]

Still, supporters might argue that Bailon-Houghton’s openness offers a raw and relatable human moment—one that underscores faith’s role in navigating brokenness. Yet the overwhelmingly negative tone of the response highlights a pressing cultural tension: The delicate balance between personal faith and public sentiment, especially amid the unresolved complexities of infidelity.

As the discourse evolves, Bailon-Houghton’s moment underscores a truth many recognise: Forgiveness can be a spiritual journey, but it’s one deeply shaped by individual healing, honesty, and accountability.

  • Tragic accident claims life of former Miss Universe contestant Kseniya Alexandrova

    [media-credit name=”Wikipedia” link=”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kseniya_Alexandrova” nofollow=1 width=1024 align=”center”][/media-credit]

The world of beauty pageants and modeling is in mourning following the untimely passing of Kseniya Alexandrova, a beloved Russian model and former Miss Universe Russia, who died at age thirty after a freak accident involving an elk. Alexandrova succumbed to severe brain injuries sustained in the crash, after fighting for her life for more than a month. The devastating incident occurred on July 5, 2025, in the Tver Oblast region of Russia. Alexandrova was a passenger in her husband’s Porsche Panamera when an elk suddenly darted onto the road and smashed through the windshield, violently striking her on the head.

Her husband recalled, “From the moment it jumped out to the impact, a split second passed. I didn’t have time to do anything… everything was covered in blood.”

Despite the immediate response of other drivers and emergency services, she slipped into a coma from which she never recovered. Alexandrova, who had married just four months earlier in March 2025, remained hospitalised until she passed away. Sources differ slightly on the date of her death—some report August 12, others say August 15—but most confirm mid-August 2025 as the timeframe.

A highly accomplished woman, Alexandrova earned the title of Vice-Miss Russia in 2017 and went on to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant that same year. Academically, she held a degree in finance from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and, in 2022, completed her studies in psychology. She was also known to serve as a psychodrama therapist.

In the wake of her death, her modelling agency, Modus Vivendis, issued a heartfelt statement, remembering her as “bright, talented… a symbol of beauty, kindness, and inner strength”. The Miss Universe Organisation also paid tribute, sharing a video tribute and expressing condolences to her family, praising her grace, beauty, and lasting spirit.

Kseniya Alexandrova’s sudden death serves as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility. In honouring her memory, her admirers remember not just her external beauty, but the warmth, strength, and passion she brought to every endeavour.

  • Melania Trump pens emotional letter to Putin, urging end to Ukraine War for the sake of children

    [media-credit name=”Instagram” link=”https://www.instagram.com/melaniatrump/p/DFV93sLSnqq” width=1440 align=”center”][/media-credit]

On August 15, 2025, during a high-stakes summit in Alaska between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, First Lady Melania Trump took the extraordinary step of penning a heartfelt “peace letter” urging Putin to end the devastating war in Ukraine. Although Melania was not present at the meeting, the letter was personally hand-delivered to the Russian leader by President Trump.

Written on White House stationery, the letter avoided explicit geopolitical references but focused deeply on the plight of children affected by the conflict. Melania evoked universal themes of innocence and hope, reminding Putin that “every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart… They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger.” She implored him to “singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter”—a call to action that, as she wrote, would see him “serve humanity itself”.

The letter’s emotional resonance stems from its emphasis on children—a group poignantly affected by abductions and displacement during the war. Reports have documented thousands of Ukrainian children forcibly transferred to Russia or occupied territories, raising international alarm and war crime accusations. President Trump described the summit as “extremely productive”, yet no ceasefire or territorial agreement was reached. Putin reportedly demanded concessions from Ukraine, especially in Donetsk and Luhansk, but no formal deal emerged.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet President Trump in Washington soon, underscoring that the peace process remains in flux and that Ukraine’s input remains central. In sum, Melania Trump’s deeply humanistic letter represents a rare diplomatic gesture focused on empathy. Though it did not yield a formal agreement, it spotlighted the emotional toll of conflict on the youngest victims and injected a humanitarian voice into an otherwise fraught political dialogue.
