Oliver “Power” Grant, co-founder of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, died after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, his family revealed on March 1, 2026. The announcement confirmed what fans and peers had feared, bringing long-awaited clarity to the Hip-Hop world about his passing at age 55.

Grant was more than a behind-the-scenes figure. He was a visionary force in Hip-Hop culture and a trusted pillar of the Wu-Tang family from the very beginning. Whilst he wasn’t a rapper, his influence was massive. First, he helped fund the group’s early work. Notably, he backed the Wu-Tang Clan’s debut single ‘Protect Ya Neck’, a track that helped define gritty East Coast Rap in the early 1990s.

Furthermore, Grant served as executive producer on the group’s breakthrough record, ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’. That album later became iconic and cemented Wu-Tang’s place in Hip-Hop history. Rolling Stone even ranked it among the greatest albums ever made.

As time passed, Grant expanded his impact beyond music. For example, he helped launch Wu Wear, the group’s streetwear brand. This business was one of the first successful artist-driven fashion lines in Hip-Hop. It reached department stores and helped sustain the group financially in its early years.

In a joint statement, Grant’s family and the Wu-Tang Clan said he fought his illness with courage. They called him “a true fighter until the end.” Although cancer claimed his life, his legacy will not fade. The group added that he will be remembered as a “global architect of culture.”

After the announcement, many Wu-Tang members paid tribute to Grant online. Method Man, GZA, and others shared heartfelt messages about his role in their lives and careers. These tributes underscored just how central Grant was to the Wu-Tang story.

In the end, Oliver “Power” Grant’s influence stretched far beyond one group or genre. He helped shape a cultural movement. And even though he’s gone, his mark on music and fashion will live on.
