  • Jamaican stars Chronixx and Kabaka Pyramid team up for ‘Same Prayer’: Listen

If you’re looking for a new song to play to help ease your mind and take you away from all of the world’s events for a few minutes, give Chronixx’s ‘Same Prayer’ featuring Kabaka Pyramid a chance. It is the second single, following ‘Dela Move’, which aims to bring positive thoughts and strength to its listeners. If you are a believer, the powerful lyrics of the song suggests that with God by your side, you can survive anything.

Listen to the “prayer for the younger generation to reflect on internally.”

Chronixx continued and explained that ‘Same Prayer’ is a reminder that there is a greater power directing things in the physical space. Instead of looking for solutions in our material lives, we can both reach out to this higher power and look deep within ourselves.

  • Watch R3HAB and HRVY’s video for the festival-ready track ‘Be Okay’

R3HAB, an esteemed Dutch-Moroccan producer, enlisted British Pop singer HRVY for the festival-ready song ‘Be Okay’. Unfortunately, Coachella 2020 isn’t happening, so there’s no telling when we will hear anything remotely like this at a big festival. But all is not lost, we still have each other and our imaginations, which isn’t nearly as exciting as real life, but it’s all we’ve got. Let’s reminisce about the good ol’ days; Watch ‘Be Okay’ by R3HAB & HRVY.

  • Indie Rock band Velvet Starlings share official visual for ‘Bitter Pills’: Watch

The single ‘Bitter Pills’ by Velvet Starlings immediately transports you back to the ages of the groovy 70s mega bands. The angsty and raspy vocals of the lead singer accompanied by the moody lyrics give this track an old school vibe. The music video created for the single is minimalist and impactful. Close-up shots of the vocalist and the subject tie in the emotion with a dash of hippie aesthetic.

    [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdPoZdi61uE&h=315]

The usage of the lighting, angles and visual textures create a soft visually pleasing finish. Velvet Starlings’ distinctive vocals, powerful lyrics and great live instruments are key points that give this track substance. The light tambourine against the band and the vocals are really a nice cherry on top.

  • Chicago singer Alexander 23’s ‘IDK You Yet’ toggles virtual dating with honest lyrics: Watch the video

‘IDK You Yet’ fits the lifestyles of many people all over the globe, in quarantine. With online dating site memberships increased by 700%, human life based on being social and intimacy. “I need you now, but I don’t know you yet because lately, it’s been hard…”

Moving along to ask the valid question “How can you miss someone you’ve never seen?”, the emerging Pop singer pulls at our heartstrings as the deep lyrics play out. What I like about well-written songs that dive deep into the psychology of a person, is that you can relate, feel like you aren’t alone after hearing the track, or feel closer to someone who identifies with what the record coveys. As the artist says on the song, he only has half of a heart. I don’t believe having half of a heart to give is abnormal. I think it’s weird when the person you love doesn’t know they aren’t getting all of you. Be like Alexander 23, and be upfront. I believe if the person understands where you are with your “Virgil” heart, you may gain a lover who will be able to love you unconditionally.

  • New York artist Eve Minor shares John Cage-inspired ‘3:33’ to “amplify Black voices and indigenous voices”: Watch

Taking a different approach by not singing at all, Eve Minor utilises her platform to “fight for social justice and human rights”. The New York City-based singer-songwriter created ‘3:33’ as a way to “amplify Black voices and indigenous voices”. As expressed throughout her composition, “silence is violence”, and perhaps in hopes of waking up fellow non-Black people to turn allyship. Whatever the outcome is, today, I am aware of the American composer’s “most important work” ‘4’33”’. Check out the performance art piece below, which takes inspiration from a John Cage original.

  • Watch ZillaKami of City Morgue’s visual for ‘ACAB’ featuring Nascar Aloe

If you’re looking for new music to listen to on the way to protest against police brutality and inequalities in this world, ZillaKami of City Morgue’s new single ‘ACAB’ is a song to consider. Featuring Nascar Aloe (a young artist from Lexington, North Carolina), the track embodies that kind of contained rage the country which we had. Visually, it is about as grungy as we could ask for, and we love it. Watch the video below.

  • Massachusetts Hip-Hop duo WOKE share ‘Up Up and Away’ visual featuring M-Dot

Last month, the unlikely group WOKE (Lateb and Oblivious) and M-Dot came together to release the video for ‘Up Up and Away’. Aside from the well-played beat, I liked the chanty hook. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a crowd like the one in the video. It brings forth more anticipation of going outside and living our lives when Phase One of reopening happens in New York City (June 8). Taken from their self-titled album, ‘Up Up and Away’ is a catchy one. Watch the official video below for the Jon Glass and IV the Polymath production.

  • Indie Pop singer Sarah Walk shares aesthetically pleasing visual for ‘What Do I Want?’: Watch

All of us swim through or sink in our moments of uncertainty. Sarah Walk, a singer from London, sings the words “Let me down or let me go” as an opening lyric over a Leo Abrahams (Regina Spektor, Paul Simon, Brian Eno) production to share what’s on her mind. Being as transparent with her partner as possible, Walk discloses the hard things. Telling someone that you don’t love them like you once did doesn’t sound like the easiest thing to share, but it is necessary for the deliverer, and perhaps, the receiver. ‘What Do I Want?’ is a single with a powerful message about being unapologetic about setting boundaries from the singer’s forthcoming album out August 28 via One Little Indian Records.

It is a well-directed music video if I say so myself. Watch it below.

  • Watch the official video for Seattle artist Cuddy Camaro’s emotional track ‘Frozen’

Cuddy Camaro’s latest track ‘Frozen’ is catchy for sure. It has the elements of a track that is sure to do well with the current TikTok generation and the public alike. It’s emotional and appears to be meaningful, but the lyrics are somewhat lost within the stylistic choices of the track. The track is clearly about love but beyond that, I’m a bit unclear on what the song is about. It’s an enjoyable track to listen to and it’s well produced. Cuddy Camaro is an artist who’s potential is astronomical and with time and experience, he’ll have the perfect formula down pat for success.

  • Jamaican artist Doktor shares official visual for ‘Boombastic’: Watch

British artist Doktor released the official video for his song ‘Boombastic’ last week. Speaking in Jamaican patois, the Londoner sings about the good life, making money, and being contempt. Watch the music video inspired by multiple films below. If the artist sounds or looks familiar to you, maybe its because you came across his work with Spice or Big Kush.
