Today, Ski Mask the Slump God released his highly-anticipated sophomore album ’11th Dimension’. As the press release perfectly describes, “Anchored by his elite top-flight rapping and hazy melodies, the twenty-one-track opus encompasses a myriad of styles, ranging from alternative and heavy metal to Jamaican and island flavours. Teeming with emotion and truth, these elements shock a vibrant and vital vision without comparison to life.”

About ’11th Dimension’, Ski Mask the Slump God commented, “I never really built a world for a project yet, so I wanted to tie everything in together. To me, ’11th Dimension’ is another astral plane. I make mood-setting music, so every song will give you a different feeling. Nothing is the same. It’s like there are eleven dimensions to this world across 21 songs. You’re going to get every style I’ve done mixed into one. A lot of experiences brought me here. There’s a lot of growing up. Real-life things happened. I dealt with friends passing away. I was also tapping into all of these other sounds. ’11th Dimension’ is a mesh of all that.”

  • Stream City Girl’s surprise album ‘City On Lock’

Lately, a lot of music leaked online. We can’t say why, but it is. Unfortunately, one of those songs is ‘Stay Down’ with Drake and Busta Rhymes, which we also covered. Recently, Drake has been under fire for the lyrics on unreleased songs. Amid the death news about Yung Miami’s son’s father, Jai Wiggins, the City Girls album leaked. As a way to get ahead of a potential disaster, the Miami duo released the album some hours later. The fifteen-track offering features Doja Cat, Lil Durk, labelmate Lil Baby on ‘Flewed Out’, and Yo Gotti. Stream the full project below.

  • Hear DJ Prince’s sonically entertaining sophomore project ‘Rosé & Riddims’

DJ Prince, the Long Island tastemaker, shows off his unique flow and lyrical tactfulness over an exciting slab of production that draws from a combination of Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, Dancehall, and Dub. As he raps throughout the project, he touches on his experiences and relations with women often. To add to the feel, and help paint some of these experiences, are singers Sarah Maria and Kendra Foster. From the start of the project to the end, DJ Prince captivates listeners, as he presents himself as a confident rapper, and as someone looking to push the envelope of what music can be. ‘Rosé & Riddims’ is just that, an exploration of sound, and artistic innovation, providing fans with a project full of good music and loaded with personality.

Back with his sophomore album ‘WUNNA’, Atlanta’s own Gunna shows his growth with the ‘Drip or Drown 2’ follow-up and introduces an alter-ego. The lead single ‘Skybox’ has over 47 million streams right now. If you’re a fan of his music, you want to listen to it on TIDAL for video commentary you can’t get anywhere else. Some features include Young Thug (of course), Nechie, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, and Travis Scott. Listen to the eighteen-track album below.

  • Stream Brooklyn Drill legend Sheff G’s outstanding debut album ‘One and Only’

On this sunny New Music Friday, one of Brooklyn’s most influential artists Sheff G released his debut album ‘One and Only’, which features my favourite tracks released this year ‘Moody’ and ‘No Suburban Pt 2’. As someone who enjoys music that is made by people who authentically tell their stories, Sheff G is one of my top new artists. As far as is album goes, I played it through a few times today. I didn’t have to speed anything up or skip the tracks, which is a big damn deal for me. When I came across the Brooklyn Drill legend’s music for the first time, it was on TIDAL, and the song was ‘Tonight’, which is still my favourite track by him. On the album, he has a part two, which isn’t bad. It’s just “friendlier” than the first one. Keeping it veritable and showing that he can hold his own, Sheff G has two featured artists Sleepy Hallow and Young AP on his project. Stream it now.

  • Stream Future’s star-studded full-length album ‘High Off Life’

Future’s highly-anticipated album ‘High Off Life’ comes as we are all in quarantine. Before then, the Atlanta artist took to Twitter to write about the mothers of his children. Yesterday, he leaked his song ‘All Bad’ with Lil Uzi Vert creatively and innovatively. Stream the twenty-one tracks featuring Travis Scott, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Young Thug, Drake, Lil Durk, Meek Mill, Doe Boy, DaBaby, and Lil Baby below.

  • Brooklyn artist HDBeenDope takes us on a tour through his ‘BrokeN Dreams’: Review

After the 2016 release of his debut album, HDBeenDope follows up with a strong new project entitled ‘BrokeN Dreams’. Honestly, I haven’t been this excited for an album since ‘Cilvia Demo’. The project takes you on a roller coaster of emotion as HD speaks his truth. It’s raw, authentic, and as gritty as it is original. From crippling self-doubt to braggadocios bars and self-examination, HD manages to get his messages across with witty punchlines and catchy flows.

If he isn’t spitting with machine-gun delivery, he’s crooning over melodic hooks such as the one on ‘Windows’. He illustrates his drug abuse and the estrangement within his family. HD acknowledges the burdens “outside his window” but accepts them as he smokes his jay. With the current state of the world, that couldn’t resonate any more than it already has.

A standout track on the album is ‘Hollywood’. HD addresses the disconnect between himself and his peers due to his recent success. Despite the verbal abuse hurled his way, HD manages to walk away with his chest out, accepting the fact he will be branded Hollywood for levelling up. HD definitely threw me on the nostalgia train with a noticeable nod to the Eminem track, ‘Stan’ with his song, ‘Superheroes’. Just like Marshall Mathers, HD tells the story from the perspective of a fan, completely disillusioned by his hero. This full-length album is a healthy, fifteen tracks, running at fifty-three minutes. It’s an impressive project overall and I’m definitely looking forward to more from this brilliant artist.

  • Philadelphia singer D Kirk KV’s debut album lacks vivacity and brimming charm needed to compete with today’s music: Review

As someone who has had the honour to listen to and support several artists, it is always a privilege to give feedback to anyone who wants it. So, when artists at all stages of their careers reach out, I must review them as any industry personnel would. Otherwise, it may cost them in the long run. When we received an inquiry from Philadelphia’s D Kirk KV on Instagram, I couldn’t wait to hear what he had. At first, I wanted to assign the review article, to one of my contributor’s, but I didn’t feel they were seasoned enough to convey our collective thoughts, professionally. Instead, I decided to take it on.

Three months ago, D Kirk KV released an eighteen-track album called ‘Oceans’, which features production from various producers including DJ Mustard (‘Special’ featuring RNB Base) and CashMoneyAp (‘She’s A Vibe’ featuring Bptheofficial). The most notable songs are ‘Birthday’, which boasts the best hook on the project but doesn’t credit the featured artist, and ‘ithinkiminlove’ featuring Hrtbrkfever because of how it incorporates Wayne Wonder’s 2003 popular Reggae song ‘No Letting Go’.

For me, D Kirk KV’s production choices are great, but surprisingly he doesn’t meet the bar of most of his musical collaborators. Often, throughout the project, his monotonous crooning style seems to decrease the energy level of the alliance. I’d like to hear how he progresses over time. As a songwriter, his concepts have connectivity, but his overall vocal delivery must improve to attract the audience he wants. As an audience, we’re left wondering what makes the Philadelphia artist standout from his vicious competitors.

Listen to the project below. To us, it feels more like a mixtape created by an artist trying to find their way than a fair introduction full-length LP.
