Woods. White van. Pregnant FKA twigs. We’re lured in to the video with close-up shot of the self-directed artist with a baby bump. Simulating child birth, we see twigs thrusting out a dance troupe adorned in multi-colored scarves. Graceful arm movements captivate and mesmerize the viewer, giving us the sensual chill of lips approaching your neck. As soon as you start flowing with it, the beat drops shifting our attention to my love and fear, a vogue battle.
The second half of the video delivers all things runway and duck walking. Yaassss! House of Twigs brings it. The visuals compliment lyrics like:
“Plead yourself to rise from ashes built from lustin’ for it / You are phoenix, you are fire, you are everything”
The direction was tantamount to Grace Jones’ Strangé commercial in “Boomerang”. It was more performance art than music video. If this is the first single of the EP, then 2015 be damned.
