So-Cal four-piece, The Futures League have released their new EP, “Don’t Be A Drag,” days before hitting the Club Stage at this year’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. The EP, produced by the multi-talented Gus Seyffert (The Black Keys, Beck, Norah Jones, Michael Kiwanuka), “Don’t Be A Drag” hones in on TFL’s unique energy – evoking a retro nostalgia while pushing forward a modern rock power. Fans can now stream the EP on Spotify and purchases are available via iTunes. Festival attendees can catch The Futures League at Bonnaroo’s Club Stage this Sunday, June 15 at 2:40 PM.
“Don’t Be A Drag” was recorded live in-studio using almost entirely all analog gear. TFL drummer John Fontana explains, “The EP is the final result of our first few days meeting and working with Gus Seyffert. His studio is a time portal back into the 1960’s and 70’s. Nothing aside from his laptop is newer than those decades… You feel a little like you’re walking into a museum of old recording gear, but you actually get to play with it.” The 5-song EP is a preview to the band’s full-length debut, which is already in the works.
Since the band’s formation in late 2012, The Futures League, who were coined by The Deli Magazine as one of the “Top 5 Emerging Bands in Los Angeles,” has played many popular Los Angeles venues such as The Troubadour, The Echoplex, The Satellite, Bootleg Theater and The Observatory, including playing direct support for major label acts like The Kooks and PUJOL. After playing an endless string of shows in their local circuit, as well as the famous SXSW festival in Austin, TX, they were snatched up by KCRW to headline their “School Night” event at Bardot, Hollywood. Shortly after, the band was invited out by lifestyle clothing brand, O’Neill, to headline an event in Hossegor, France for the Quicksilver Pro 2013Surf Contest.
The Futures League are among this year’s breakout acts playing the Club Stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, joined by bands including The Orwells, Skinny Lister, The Griswolds, Wild Child, The Lonely Biscuits, Fly Golden Eagle, The Black Cadillacs, Diarrhea Planet, Hunter Hunted, Lily & The Parlour Tricks, Bronze Radio Return and Speedy Ortiz. For a full list of all bands playing the Bonnaroo Club Stage, please visit via this link.
