“Yes, the concept of musical taste is subjective. Everyone is capable of forming ideas and opinions about what they think is ‘good’ or ‘bad’. When it comes to music, it isn’t just about the science of how it makes me feel, I think about the technicalities, vocal arrangement, diction and oration, execution, intention, and whether it competes with what’s already out there. As I live my life, on a day-to-day basis, I come across unique sounds that I like to collect and reflect on for research purposes as an A&R, writer, and someone who is called on for advice. ‘Sound Searching’ is something I started many years ago, as a digital form of ‘crate digging’. Today, it is a series of playlists featuring musicians at all levels of their careers, who make music under various musical styles.
You might want to bookmark this page. You will see names you weren’t familiar with start to get recognition, enter Billboard charts and the award circuit. It’s happened before. It’s happening now. It is guaranteed.” — Richardine Bartee
