Song of the Day: “Figure It Out” by HaLo featuring Masta Killa & Median

Name: HaLo
Representing: Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Genre: Hip-Hop
For fans of: The Wu-Tang Clan, Little Brother, A Tribe Called Quest
Single from: Mansa Musa (Guest Starring Masta Killa)
Produced by: 9th Wonder
Label: Jamla

The elegance of HaLo, frontline soldier for 9th Wonder’s Jamla army, is captivating to say the least. There’s a strength in his poetic approach that fights off deadly dragons with flaming arrows and returns stolen treasure to it’s rightful village. Over the past few years he’s been championed as one of my go to artists when the ever-so-often, break from the poppy BS is needed. “Figure It Out” is one of my favorite tracks from HaLo’s latest release, Mansa Musa. This joint features Masta Killa, whose role is more supporting cast than feature throughout the entire album, and one of my all-time favorite emcee’s Median. 9th Wonder on the beat, makes the cipher complete.

“Dope beats, dope rhymes. What more could ya’ll want?” – Phonte (of Little Brother)
