Today, internationally-known Nigerian singer-songwriter Skales released a new uptempo jam called ‘Konibaje’ to commemorate his late mother. Last month during his tour in the United States, he discovered the heartbreaking news and decided to push back the release date for the deluxe version of his album ‘Sweet Dsitractions’ to 2023. What does the title of the song mean? It translates to “It won’t be bad” in Yoruba, his native Nigerian language. Through the songwriting, the skilled songwriter and performer use the Jay Pizzle beat to let us know that everything he does needs to be loud and flashy, and we know that he wants to keep bad energy away by all means. It is necessary when you aim to survive, compete, make moves that matter, and elevate a generation.
“Life is happening, and it’s those things that are happening to me and around me that made me come up with this song. My aim for the song is to give hope and confidence to anyone listening that may be going through it. Also, this song is really special to me, as it is my first release since my mother passed away, and instead of being sad, I am choosing to celebrate life, and strive for more success, just like my mum would want me to”, says Skales about what inspired the song.
Well, you heard the man. Join him and celebrate life. It’s short and we have only one to enjoy. Listen to Skales’ latest offering below. It feels good, and it will get you dancing this December.
