Sharing Sounds: New music you should notice (May 16)

Sharing Sounds: May 16, 2016

In one fashion or another, this idea came about, and fellow journalists and friends wanted me to start a list of my five most listened to songs of the week, or to share five songs from the many submissions we receive at GrungeCake every week. I’ve decided to give it a go but in my way. Because this is my list, you may find five different songs by the same artist, songs that I miss hearing, or just selections from various countries and genres.

It could be the warmer weather we are basking in on the East Coast, or it could be my obsessions for wanting to be warm all the time. All of these songs by Dibia$e, SHANGO, Alien Family, Conor, Taylor J, Chuck G. and the “Formation” remix are synonymous to what my summers are like in New York. Funky like New York hallway and subway piss, and silent in my movements like the “Delayed Flight” instrumentals. Getting into something new, experimental and youthful like SHANGO’s “b the 1.” Relaxing in a lounge somewhere in the heart of the city, smoking a Cuban cigar, with something that sounds like Smokey Got Beatz’s production for Alien Family’s “Right Now.” Followed by more de-stressing music that sounds like “Bash” by Strng Frnds’ Conor, masterfully crafted by Psymun.

And when I want to think about my summer love or get dressed for a date night, I’d enhance my natural beauty with “Juice” by Taylor J, a buzzing new artist from St. Paul, Minnesota that reminds me of Kentucky-native rapper Nemo Achida so much, in the background. Then, I’d turn on Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Chuck G latest track “G O O D” when my purse is on my shoulder, and I’m ready to head out of the door. Check out this week’s soundtrack to my life below, and stay tuned for next week’s top picks.

“Formation” is one of the most controversial songs released by Beyoncé yet, and I as perused for new music from Brazil made by Brazilians (Iccarus and Ruxwell), the sped up edit piqued my interest.
