I

’ m unsure which city the lead singer Mat McHugh is from, but I can hear the sexy accent. You know what makes accents ‘sexy’? It’s the way the tongue rolls in the mouth against the teeth. I just read the press release. He’s from Australia.

Much like how I felt when I discovered Capital Cities some years before signing to Capitol Records, a similar atmospheric instrumentation comes alive when you hear “Sideways.”

The longer you are alive, most things become repetitive. You start to see patterns in people, experiences, and actions. Because you’ve been around, you are aware of probable outcomes. Some sounds are most likely to do well at the beach or on a yacht. Other sounds beg for concrete and asphalt. In the case of Seaside Highlife’s track, warm weather, bikinis, and sunblock are in tow.

Demographics are real, and so are vibes. Therefore, if I had a paid vacation for every time I hit the hammer on the nail about anything, I’d be in Montenegro somewhere; working on my debut collection of beach towels. Listen to the group’s song that has over three million streams worldwide.
