Ruthie, the talented singer-songwriter from Leeds in the United Kingdom, has one of the most calming voices on this Earth. Usually backed by simplicity in the form of a piano, she sings about emotive topics, unlike anyone else I’ve had the privilege of supporting and hearing. This time around, we were able to get a quote from her about her song.

When you’re in love with someone, your relationship becomes a kind of landscape that you both share, explains Ruthie. You know your way around the landmarks and the shortcuts. After a break-up, I felt like I hadn’t just lost a person, but the entire landscape of my life, and I felt lost in a foreign country. Breakdown and renewal are cyclical and contain more questions than answers, but hope can be found if you can dream up a new landscape for your life.

Listen to her new song about finding a new identity after the end of a relationship.
