Johannesburg is known by some to be the hub of entertainment, tourism, and luxury but that wasn’t the case today as more than 70 people were killed in a ghastly fire incident.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 3, with the flames running through a five-storey apartment block as firefighters and emergency services gathered to tend to the bodies covered with blankets.
Some sources say that household fires are common in Johannesburg, especially in poor areas, one of which is Alexandra, a city plagued by power shortages causing the residents to resort to candles for light and wood fires for heat.
