Pope Francis visits Mongolia

On September 1, Pope Francis visited Mongolia, a predominantly Buddhist country with approximately 1,430 Catholics. What’s the point of the trip? According to Reuters, the Vatican hopes to act as a facilitator to improve its “difficult relations” with China, visiting places where Catholics are a minority. The first event for the pointiff occurs on Saturday in the capital where he will address govenrment leaders and the diplomatic corps.
