GRUNGECAKE

Listen to Brooklyn-based EDM artist Paul Feder’s new project ‘Paperclips’

Brooklyn electronic artist Paul Feder flexes his electro muscles in his new single, ‘Paperclips,’ as he explores the complex relationship humanity is developing with AI. Released on June 25, ‘Paperclips’ is the first single from Feder’s forthcoming EP, ‘Echoes’, set to drop later this summer.

Accompanied by a trippy AI-built video, ‘Paperclips’ stands as Feder’s most direct homage to Kraftwerk. Inspired by Feder’s discomfort and ultimate embrace of AI, the track also draws on philosopher Nick Bostrom’s theories. ‘Paperclips’ delves into a thought experiment where a sentient AI, tasked with maximizing paperclip production, ultimately eradicates humanity in its relentless pursuit.

Feder’s approach, however, brings a fresh perspective, imagining intelligent machines finding meaning and fulfillment in productivity. The single is a tongue-in-cheek robotic dance track that blends vintage synths with modern digital audio workstations (DAWs), creating a bridge between past and present electronic music.

The AI-generated video and the song’s thematic depth highlight Feder’s innovative spirit. ‘Paperclips’ is a danceable, concept-driven track that sets the stage for the rest of ‘Echoes’, promising more electronic explorations and contemplations. With its infectious beat and intellectual underpinning, ‘Paperclips’ is a compelling teaser for what’s to come.
