Los Angeles-based rapper and comedic talent Open Mike Eagle is sharing a new single. ‘Relatable (peak OME)’ is the first offering from his upcoming project and follows Eagle’s widely-celebrated 2017 album ‘Brick Body Kids Still Daydream’, a musical documentary and opus that examines the now-demolished Chicago building that his family once lived in and the ingrained trauma that comes from living in the projects. The album landed on many year-end lists and Pitchfork crowned the album “one of the most compelling indie-rap listens of the year.” Eagle’s unique brand of “art rap,” the term he coined for his progressive, leftfield style, has brought him around the world with headlining solo dates, as well as performances at this year’s Pitchfork festival and the inaugural Adult Swim Festival.

Outside of music, his passion for comedy has led him to work with comedian Baron Vaughn to create The New Negroes, a stand-up meets-music variety show that explores and expands perceptions of blackness, soon to air its first full season on Comedy Central in 2019. Eagle’s penchant for comedy is one of his greatest musical skills, allowing him to drive home powerful stories and grim truths using hilarious punchlines that come together in a concise statement.

Along with the new single, Open Mike Eagle is announcing his new project, What Happens When I Try to Relax, coming soon. Eagle has this to say about ‘Relatable (peak OME)’,

“It’s too complicated for a quick explanation. It’s about a lot of things. It’s about expectations of form, anxiety, middle age and middle class. and that’s just the parts I know how to put into words a couple months after writing it.”
