Nicki Minaj’s conflicting message

Does she feel cheated?

24 hours ago, Nicki Minaj published a photo of her new cover for an unreleased single titled “Anaconda” produced by Polow da Don & Da Internz. It appears to be the second official single from her upcoming album “The Pink Print,” which is heavily inspired by JAY Z’s “Blueprint” collection.

Now, let’s get into this seemingly controversial cover: For most of her career, Nicki Minaj has covered up. Whether she was under big and bold wigs (which former hairstylist Terrence Davidson has filed a suit against her for,) layers of clothing or concealer, people fell in love with her pizazz and spunk. To date, I think this is the first time the Queens-native exposed her (bare) rump in a still photo and it seems conflicting to outsiders, looking in.

Here’s why:

Yes, she is a beautiful woman and yes, she has the right to show her body off. Yes, she is talented without a doubt, but one cannot help but wonder the obvious: Why is she doing it?

Some say, it is her way of garnering more attention because she feels like “she’s losing the race” to Iggy Azalea. Some say, it’s because a new competitor (Remy Ma) is coming home from prison and is probably the only one who can compete with her on a “street level.” Some say, she’s taking it “back to the streets” too because of that reason. Some say, it’s about time she shows off her (fake) ass.

Whether any of the following speculations are true, at this year’s BET Awards, during her acceptance speech Nicki Minaj allegedly dissed fellow rapper Iggy Azalea who was nominated for the ‘Best Female Hip Hop Artist’ category saying the following:

Since, Nicki Minaj has tweeted alleged subliminal messages to Iggy Azalea. Nicki Minaj has yet to publicly confirm if she was talking to Iggy Azalea, and I don’t think she will until she feels it is necessary. However, I think if Nicki Minaj is going to continue to express that it is a racial matter or unfairness, she should use her celebrity to public address her issues in a professional setting. Please see the tweets below:

*Iggy Azalea should take updated press shots and pose like this. Just for funny, homage measure.

A message to Nicki Minaj:

Nicki, I think your “Pink Print” concept is genius. At this moment, you are the best person to do it and I am glad you’re taking the time to create something that will possibly serve as guidebook in the future for all women in entertainment who might be inspired by or influenced by you, one day. Just keep it classy. Regardless of skin color, what appears to be “unfair” and judgmental.

I’m looking forward to listening to “Anaconda,” and supporting Nicki Minaj in her declaration of independence. (If this is what this is.)
