M

s Banks, a British musician, recently shared her video for her “Day Ones.” It’s a fun Afro-Carribean-tinged record about keeping your real friends close. During my research, not only did I find out that she is Nigerian and Ugandan, but she is highly-skilled. Though her debut mixtape released in 2013, Ms Banks shows exasperating growth in her new releases. “Once Upon a Grind” didn’t have the same intent or as her newer releases.

What I like most about her is her ability to be as real as possible. I was able to see it again and again, but specifically in the article about her on i-D. In it, she supports other artists (Hardy Caprio and Avelino) without an ulterior motive. Most artists, on the rise in North America, aren’t keen to mentioning artists outside of their camps nor artists who aren’t charting for competitive reasons. Personally, I understand, but I think it takes a highly confident person to move the way she does.

Watch the video below. It seems to be a good time with friends and family.

PS: I think her best look is the one where she wears the white dress.
