Today, Mr Eazi, one of the only global stars of Nigerian heritage to earn a Latin GRAMMY and a GRAMMY, has shared the inspiring news about his forthcoming solo debut. The album—Mr Eazi’s Debut Album—comes with a fantastic rhythmic single, ‘Chop Time, No Friends’ and an accompanying visual shot in Dakar, Senegal. To make the record, Mr Eazi enlisted KillBeatz, the GRAMMY Award-winning music who worked on songs by Ed Sheeran, Wizkid and Burna Boy, and Nigeria’s fast-rising talent Andre Vibez, best known for his contribution to Rema and Selena Gomez’s ‘Calm Down’, which is a Billboard Top 10 sizzler.

Of the new record, Mr Eazi says, “The phrase ‘Chop Time, No Friend’ is a very common Ghanaian saying, something you will see written on the front or side of buses, just like the popular saying, ‘God is Great’. It means when you are eating, you don’t think about anybody, you are just focused on your enjoyment—this song is touching on how people chit-chat on me, but I am still focused on my enjoyment. It is a declaration, a celebration of self. I am saying everything I touch turns to gold, and you can’t trouble me”.
The album, which promises to bring back the thrilling Banku Music sound he pioneered on Afropop essentials like ‘Skin Tight’ and ‘Pour Me Water’, is set to release on October 27. In the meantime, check out the well-produced visual directed by Allison Swank Owen (known for shooting videos for Erykah Badu, A$AP Rocky and Major Lazer) to come alive below.
The announcement comes after the release of his collaborative dance album with DJ Edu: ChopLife SoundSystem.
