If there’s a way to introduce yourself on a track, I’m pretty sure this is the best way to do it. The Alternative Soul singer released her debut EP ‘Come Through Mother’ on April 17. The four-track project coalesces groovy, futuristic, and soulfully alternative instrumentals with Newbill’s powerful voice.
Having an upbringing in DC’s underground Alternative-Rock Soul scene and being raised in a family of musicians, Newbill’s music has that invigoratingly eclectic essence. Her talent has gotten her ranked as #6 in the ranked DMV Alternative category for ReverbNation.
A vehement delivery of stirring lyrics towards the role of women in society further pushes the prominent message ‘Come Through Mother.’ Deeming her sound as ‘URB ALT’, this project is a short but exciting ride. Touching a range of subjects such as love, feminism, reincarnation, socio-politics, and more reveals Newbill’s unique persona. Newbill’s peculiar singing style and cadence are giving me “Nina Simone meets Vesta Williams”. Overpowering and sonorous at times and soulfully full and quirky at others, these songs are high energy and blissful.
‘Come Through Mother’ is a zestfully earnest project. Newbill literally ‘came through’ and showed us what she is all about. Hopefully, we receive more exuberant projects from the artist in the future.
