Postseason around the corner, teams making their playoff push

Only four teams have clinched a playoff birth with just over a week left in the regular season. Baseball’s two best teams in the San Francisco Giants and Los Angles Dodgers have clinched at least a wild-card spot, along with the Milwaukee Brewers clinching a wild-card spot with the win over the Cubs on September 18. On Wednesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays became the first AL team to clinch with a win over the Bluejay, 7-1.

The wild-card race is vastly open for several other teams and will come down to the final week. The St Louis Cardinals had all sorts of bullpen issues earlier in the season, now pulling off a surprisingly 11 game winning streak and looking like the hottest team in the league. The Boston Redsox has overcome count players missing games earlier in the season due to COVID, to now looking like the second hottest team, pulling off a seven-game winning streak. With the Redsox playing out of their minds, this leaves one more spot in the American League Wild-card for the talented New York Yankees, Toronto Bluejays, or the Seattle Mariners.

While the Oakland A’s and New York Mets seem to have taken themselves out of the race with their inconsistent play. The Atlanta Braves have been quite consistent all season but are still looking to clinch a spot. All Baseball eyes are the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Deigo Padres, watching to see if they have a late run to propel them into a wild-card spot. Fans would love to see the electric Fernando Tatís Jr in the postseason or even one of baseball’s prime jewels in Bryce Harper.
