After speaking with Jayson, I had a passion for making alcohol.
I remember my grandma having to go pick my granddad up from a bar because he was too drunk to drive and such a frequent customer of the place they would just call home to say he was drunk again come pick him up. We would arrive; There was my grandpa. The happy, very giving, drunk guy, handing money to everyone around him. Eventually, he just built a bar in the basement of his house and invited everyone to The House of Pain: A fully functional bar with a soda fountain and an assortment of liquor. You name it, you got it, a lot of it, for free.
The only rule: You had to finish your drink. Nothing left in your glass.
He would always say,
“Free liquor gets you the drunkest!”
Just imagine going to a bar, drinking whatever you wanted and never having to pay for anything, any day you wanted? My grandma wasn’t too amused, but she would just kick people out when she got tired of them with her pistol she kept in her pocketbook. My grandfather went through lots of liquor in his bar. It was amazing! Can you imagine if he had turned that into a distillery?
Just imagine going to a bar, drinking whatever you want and never having to pay for anything, any day you wanted? Distilling alcohol has been around since damn near the beginning of time. Let’s keep it real. People love to get drunk and party. It’s the American way. From 1920 to 1933, it was illegal to distribute or use alcohol. So that brought bootleggers and the home distilling, “bathtub gin” which they would secretly take to speakeasies and brothels and cash out.
Everyday citizens became criminals for just wanting to have a cocktail after work or dinner. After orderly crime made tons of money on the Prohibition Act, the government made alcohol legal again. You couldn’t make it in your house. However, you could buy it and drink it. With hundreds of liquor brands out there, I thought I wanted to start a liquor company and create a liquor. I’m in Colorado; The best place to get all of the equipment for a liquor company is in Colorado. It is called the Mile Hi Distilling. It is has been around for fourteen years. I got a chance to take a tour through the workshop; Shown the real art of getting lit.
Basically, liquor consists of boiling sugar and water, taking the vapours, and bottling it. Please, don’t try this. Plenty of steps and ingredients were left out. I spoke with Jayson. He explained that the purpose of the company was to make all of the equipment to create the perfect liquor. They look at making alcohol as more than a hobby. It is more of an art form and passion.
After speaking with Jayson, I had a passion for making alcohol. It is affordable, too. I’ve already begun thinking of flavours, which they can assist you with as well. I’ve already started ordering. Yo, we are about to be very drunk! Let’s think of a name and start this “Thirston Thursdays” party. I asked Jayson if he would consider letting the staff get drunk on Thursday’s. He said, ‘No,’ but I feel like I can sway him, guys. You may not get any product out on Thursday’s, but you will be drunk. Call a designated driver!
