12 Days in Paris — Distant (Submission)

No matter how much we want to bend the truth for our personal use or gain, quality is what it is. “Distant”, the newest song by Los Angeles-native band 12 Days in Paris is good enough to be on the radio. It has the right amount of what I think ought to be in a new song. The mix and backing vocals sound professional/competitive. The guitar strums at the start of the record are inviting—pulling you into their world. I enjoyed the unexpected Rap verse by Well Written. It isn’t too much or lacklustre.

Subtle and smooth are the ways to my heart—even you are a long distance from me. Character, as it should, goes a long way. Check out the newest track by the Folk-Pop group below.

The Love Bunch – Ode to the Cupboard Gang (Submission)

Following suit, The Love Bunch share the explosive “Ode to the Cupboard Gang”. Featuring clips of laughter and fun from what seems to be a night out with friends, the band captured the essence of their friendship. There’s nothing like being in the company of your best friends—and laughing until you cannot breathe. That’s what this song signifies to me—good times with good people. If you follow GRUNGECAKE or me on Instagram, you probably saw the ad with a Boise, Idaho geotag. I wonder if it’s responsible for this submission! We have also added “Ode to the Cupboard Gang” to our Spotify playlist. Check it out via this link.

neena – Last Call (Submission)

One of my favourite Polish singer-songwriters, neena, is back with a new single from her debut album. Her voice is mesmerizing. Her sonic selections are attractive and upbeat—never a bore. Stream “Last Call” below now. Then, check out the Warszawa’s native musician’s album. It’s called, “Flipside”.

Dumaresq – Be Pretty (Submission)

Brisbane must be where all the Australian bands congregate to make music that could stand the test of time. Dumaresq, a young talent from the area, released a track about erasing natural attributes to become perfect. To be frank, I think “Be Pretty” is a song that resonates with the human in all of us. If you weren’t born with the looks, a symmetrical face or the smarts, cosmetic beauty is the answer.

For the record, I am not against cosmetic surgery. I just have a problem with people who pretend like it is natural. Liars aren’t ever attractive. If you like to listen to music on Spotify, check out our new Indie/Pop/Rock playlist featuring the song.

Marteen – We Cool (Personal)

I like Marteen. The sixteen-year-old is not selling anyone a dream. He’s telling a relatable story. The singer-songwriter taught himself how to play the piano and guitar when he was twelve. Personally, I’m looking forward to hearing more from the young talent. Watch the well-directed video for “We Cool”. It’ll teach you a thing or two about being fine with what you have—right now.
