Lorde, First Woman In 17 Years To Top Billboard’s Alternative Charts

New Zealander teen Pop-phenom Lorde has made alternative radio history this week by reaching #1 with her hit single ‘Royals’. Her debut single sold over 300,000 copies in the U.S. and has ignited several radio formats, also reaching #1 on Billboard’s Nielsen BDS-based alternative radio chart, and resulting in her becoming the highest charting and youngest female artist in seventeen years. The last solo female to top the chart was Tracy Bonham with her song “Mother Mother” in June 8, 1996.

After playing 2 sold out shows in New York City and Los Angeles last week, the 16-year-old singer-songwriter announced more North American tour dates for the Fall. The highly-anticipated headlining shows sold out in a matter of minutes, prompting another date to be added at the Warsaw in Brooklyn on October 3.

Lorde has confirmed the title and release date for her debut album.
