Yes, that’s right. Zenit and Lomography want to resurrect a 175-year-old lens for their signature film cameras and DSLRs! The retail launch price of the lens is currently planned as $499/€499 and the Special Edition at $599/€599, so —photographers— you can make some great savings by backing them on Kickstarter! When the lenses are ready, you’ll be able to pick whether you want a Canon or Nikon compatible Petzval lens. Each lens looks absolutely fantastic attached to DSLR cameras and analog cameras!
When asked why the Petzval lens,
Lomography is bringing back a lens originally made in the 1800s. The Petzval lens has a very unique style to it that fits with the Lomography aesthetic as well. There is a sharp center focal point and the edge create a bokah effect that looks like a radial blur. What is even more exciting is that this new version of the Petzval lens will be able to work with Canon EF and Nikon F mount cameras so it can be used on digital and analog SLRs.

Right now we are funding the project through kickstarter so we can manufacture and ship the lenses to Lomographers around the world. In just a matter of hours we have reached our goal and are now looking to achieve our stretch goals. This is a huge step for Lomography as it lets us dip our toes in to the digital world while still managing to maintain our love for all things analog,” said Murano (Marketing and PR Assistant).
As you can imagine, we’re all very excited! Lomography has been a large part of our aesthetic and we’d like to encourage you to join in on spreading the message, learn more and donate to an important advancement of photography and technology.”
