In a setting for a dark, twisted fantasy, Lola Blanc shares the spooky new video for “The Magic.” Witchery and magic in a park, somewhere unknown, Lola Blanc and her female friends cast plenty of spells on people of their choice. How timely is this for a post-Mercury Retrograde plot? Too perfect. The singer-songwriter coined as a “circus (freak) pop” act is a long way from her Britney Spears days and we’re not complaining. Watch the weird, cult vibe video below.

The song comes from her forthcoming “The Witch” EP. Aptly titled, huh? Read Lola Blanc’s statement to Paper Magazine about her new video.

“When I was growing up I was obsessed with the idea of magic, especially in stories about witches. Women and girls who could manifest things they wanted in the world with their sheer power… How can you not be obsessed with that?” Blanc explained to us via email. “The video is about the struggle to make magic work for me as a fictional witch, the same way I struggle with believing in magic, or religion, or everlasting fairy-tale love, in my real life. I want to believe. I want to be the head witch in charge.”
