Recognizing the need for more Black-owned banks, acknowledged by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Killer Mike announces the 2021 opening of Greenwood. Named after the Tulsa, Oklahoma community referred to as “Black Wall Street”, Greenwood hopes to be the first digital bank for Black and Latinx individuals and businesses. Greenwood offers online courses about basic finances, a Black metal debit card, low fees to open up an account, and a monthly $10,000 grant for Black or Lantinx small businesses using their services. The overall hope is that Greenwood will help promote entrepreneurial activity in the Black and Lantinx communities.
