Trained by Don Saxby, Katherine Taylor Latham readies for her next match.
recently went to world famous Gleason’s to watch her train, and to do this interview! I was impressed with her workout. She’s focused and passionate. Katherine Taylor Latham will box this Thursday at the legendary BB King’s. You should buy a ticket to support a great cause.
What’s the name of the charity?
It is called “Gleason’s Give a Kid a Dream.” Established in 1991, Gleason’s Gym “Give a Kid a Dream” has worked to provided mentorship to disadvantaged youths through the sport of boxing. Currently, the program is supported by the Gleason’s itself. Individual personal trainers who volunteer their time or substantially discount their rates to help the children. With an average referral retention rate of 75%, it’s clear the program is working. Success in the program is not measured by how well participants learn to box, but by how well they develop on a mental note.
How can people donate?
People can donate using this link. Please don’t forget to add my name.
How long have you been training for this boxing match?
In January, I started to train at Gleason’s. Then, I decided to do this charity event.
What can we expect on the night of the fight?
There will be seven on fight night. There will be two female fights and five male. Since it’s around Halloween, there will also be a costume contest (with prizes) for people brave enough to dress up. The event will take place at BB King’s in Times Square so it will be an exciting atmosphere. It will also be the first time fighting for most of us, so I expect a healthy buzz of nervous energy too!
Who do you train with at Gleason’s?
Don Saxby is my boxing trainer.
