Both of Jidenna’s new songs ‘Sou Sou’ and ‘Zodi’, reviewed

Someone in Atlanta… please do us a favour and tell Yusef and ’em that we need Jidenna to alchemize a video for both.

Last month, Jidenna blessed us with the Summer chunes, ‘Tribe’ and ‘Sufi Woman’. The slick talk savage followed up with a twin pack delivery this weekend. Jidenna links up with the effervescent Mr Eazi for ‘Zodi’. The cleverly sampled track features Busta’s lunch table anthem ‘Put Your Eyes Where My Hands Can See’. The interpolation of such an iconic song is pure mastery. To capture lingering lust with such a wicked baseline is sonic sorcery.

As someone who just collected her ‘Sou Sou’ two weeks ago, I have never heard a song so sweet. Ladened with backyard lust, this song reeks of intentional shoulder brushing, stolen glances, extended smiles and summer confidence. Four singles in and we know ‘85 to Africa’ is going to extend Hot Girl Summer until about mid-October.

Someone in Atlanta, please, do us a favour and tell Yusef and ’em that we need Jidenna to alchemize a video for both.
