In 2017 on Valentine’s Day, I listened to these kinds of songs during the car ride to the soul food restaurant, where my boyfriend at the time picked up the dinner that I would end up eating by myself. Fortunately, that relationship has come to an end, but it doesn’t take away the amount of love these records exude because I haven’t heard a better Valentine’s Day playlist yet. Stream the Dutch producer-DJ and Soulection member Jarreau Vandal’s beautifully-curated Valentine’s Day mix ‘What is Love?’ Vol IV below. It spans the spectrum of your favourite classic Jamaican tracks and R&B/Soul music—old and new—from North America.
