Interview: Dead Exit Talks New Track, Doom EP And Dealing With Popularity

Assault with a deadly weapon.

Dead Exit

This deadly bass music — a general term for drum and bass, drumstep, bassline, dubstep, garage etc. — trio from East London started recording and playing music together last October, but they’ve known each other for ages. It is evident in their music and if you ever wondered what keeps these three together, it’s a bond that started ages ago. The members of Dead Exit are like brothers. We caught up with Sammy for a quick interview about the latest single, the new EP and their current popularity.

Tell us a little but about this new record. What inspired or influenced the record?

Our latest record is another remix of a DEMS track titled “Desire”. The guys from DEMS are friends of ours and after the impact of our last remix project with them, it would be rude not to do another. It’s out as a free download, the same goes for all our tracks so far. Trying to get the name out there before we ask anyone to hand over any of their hard-earned cash. To create the track was a dream, the DEMS vocals fit so well with our style and will definitely work more with these guys on future releases.

How do you deal with your popularity and fame? Are you considering your fans when creating your music or are you creating it from a place of neutrality?

I don’t know about fame. Maybe a few year’s time! When making music, we start from a neutral perspective. If you thought about what has worked previously or what fans liked in previous tracks every release would sound too similar. We have some hard tear out tracks and some nice vocal tracks, similar sounds but each track has a complete different feel.

When you’re not making, performing or dancing to music, you are _________.

Eating. We have held every single meeting at Nando’s in Westfield Stratford City — Google it! Black card?! *cough cough hint hint*

When you first heard the name “GrungeCake”, what came to mind?

Unhealthy food. Why? I’m not quite sure!

What’s coming up? What’s next? Any shows in New York City, Los Angeles or Las Vegas?

Next up is our “Doom EP”. It’s a 4-track EP with a few tracks that fans have been asking us to release for ages! Our shows are all Europe-based at the moment, but we plan to get across the pond as soon as possible! For now sign up to the mailing list at deadexitmusic.com and you will get the EP for free.
