Eelke Kleijn – The Calling (Submission)
It is sunny outside. Your beverage is chilled. It is slowly melting. Positivity orbits you. They are playing your song through the speakers. You have checked all of your emails. Your notifications aren’t overwhelming. As I listen to ‘The Calling’ by Dutch producer Eelke Kleijn, several images enter my mind. All of them are good.
Marquis Hawkes – Don’t U (Edit) featuring Ursula Rucker (Submission) (Spotify)
Smooth and easy, Deep House producer Marquis Hawkes teams up with vocalist Ursula Rucker to emit messages of positivity. As calming as her voice is, I would probably need to hear the track at a faster BPM or when it is time to wind down and head home, or to bed.
Zepet – Do I Make You Nervous (Submission) (Spotify)
As the mind becomes crowded with thoughts concerning someone you like and want to love, the human being becomes anxious or nervous. For me, it depends on the matter at hand. If it is my daily activities, I have it under control. I don’t feel a way. Otherwise, anxiety exists. Recently, I met someone who makes me nervous as hell! Therefore, I connect to the words. So, if I were to answer the question in the title as if the person of my dreams asked me: Yes, you do. You make me nervous as hell! I haven’t felt like this since I was a teenager.
KB Devaughn – For Me (Submission)
I know some people think it is unfair to compare or state that something sounds similar to another artist, but sometimes, it is hard to ignore. Inglewood, California rapper KB Devaughn reminds me so much of Mick Jenkins. Aside from the vocal similarities and song structure, the Westcoast rapper describes what it’s like to be in love with him. As we all share complexities, he allows us to get into his psyche for two minutes and change. Watch the new video for ‘For Me’ below.
Shan Vincent de Paul – Light (Submission)
How sweet and necessary is a father’s love? I can only imagine how fearless I would have been—earlier in life—with my dad around like Shan Vincent de Paul is there for his daughter, Remedios X. Needless to say, I am forever grateful for what I turned out to be today, but I don’t think there’s any harm in thinking. When his daughter is a woman, she will look back on this video. Hopefully, she will be able to see that her father loves her a lot and is patient and passionate.
