oof, known to some as Shaboi, lives a quiet life. He’s not big on self-promoting, but when he does, heads pay attention. Doof is among one of plenty of heads making noise from Richmond, Virginia. Notable artists such as Fly Anakin, Koncept Jackson (from the Hip-Hop collective Mutant Academy) and Devonne Harris are among some of the talent coming out of the city surrounded by lakes. Though he is the soft-spoken human being that he is, he makes his mark by releasing quality content out of the blue. Doof is coming off a collaborative EP with MellowMarc, a producer hailing from New Jersey.

Suitably titled “Nah, Stop It,” the album process began in early 2016. Now, in late 2017, we have “DF.” The artist produced, recorded, and mixed this album. Standout tracks from “DF” consist of “cantswim”; a split record that goes from laid-back poetry to downright lyrical discharge.

Pay attention and paper this shit greatness/All this steeze is just paper in the making/Style going through inflation/I call the whole fellatio/I push your knees back like the matrix

The backdrop is a world abstracted from form yet the perfect fit for a journalistic venture into low fidelity. The strange marriage of lyricism and experimental drum and loop give the album a certain feeling of looking through the windows of a river home hidden by a swampy overpass.

A true hoarder of art and a firm believer of “when the time is right”, Doof is in no rush for attention and immediate gratification. After all, “Nah, Stop It” was released exclusively via the SoundCloud website. However, regardless of the presentation, we are all here to admire and listen to Doof’s craftsmanship.
