My son always tries to tell me I like old music. I’m not quite sure how to take this since he is thirteen and thinks anything that wasn’t made by someone under the age of twenty-one right now is old and has grandkids. Seriously like, he will sit there and try to tell me how much he hates Radiohead and how Tupac was trash! I swear, sometimes, I feel like I’m gonna choke slam him into the bush in the front yard, but it has not come to that yet. Oh, but it will!
The new song by Dog Trainer, ‘Fever Dream’ reminds me of the eighties and I loved the eighties. You’re thinking “Yeah, what do you know about the 80s?”, I know that the music was dope and the clothing styles were amazing. ‘Fever Dream’ is a calm, soothing record that would be perfect—blasting—while driving down the Pacific Coast Highway. The vocalist has a voice that seems to ease your mind with every note sung. The beat does remind me of something older, but old doesn’t always mean bad and in that is definitely true for this song. I believe I played it about ten times in a row, which made me want to explore more of Dog Trainer to see if maybe this was a runoff song. I found another named ‘The Kids’; it is also a really good song by them.
Dog Trainer, in my opinion, is just lacking slight polishing and maybe a publicist to help get their music in more people’s faces. I think it deserves way more ears than their SoundCloud shows. If they continue to make songs like this and perfect them, we will be hearing a lot more from them in the future.
