Has Dave East found his wave? I think so; Whenever he collaborates with Chris Brown, they make good music. Don’t be surprised if there’s a joint project in 2018.
I must admit. I didn’t start listening to Dave East until late 2014. I only say that because one of you loyalists who know him from the block might come for me to say he’s been making music since 2005. In January of 2015, the New York City-native recording artist showed my article some love. Then, I began dating a Muslim man who is a huge fan. Dave East is also Muslim. Wherever we went, we played ‘Hate Me Now’, ‘Kairi Chanel’, and ‘Paranoia: A True Story’ in the car. Those songs about criticism, making it, and street life were the soundtracks to our evenings before we broke up.
We wondered why we didn’t hear East’s music on the radio stations in our hometown. Within our circles, we would complain and argue with one another until we heard ‘Perfect’ featuring Chris hit the radio. I thought ‘Type of Time’ was a great song for New York City radio, especially for Nas’ artist, but who am I? (That question is rhetorical.)
Today, I think the way he approaches each record is with maturity and outstanding confidence. His voice sounds completely different to me than it did on ‘Neva Had Shit‘. In a good way.
Please, feel free to chime in anytime if you think I am wrong. At any time, please.
In the meantime, just stream the audio now from Dave East and DJ Holiday’s mixtape, ‘Karma‘. Lastly, in correlation to this story, that same boyfriend used to talk about Bentley trucks all day. I know he’s excited about this one. Before you go, listen to the full sixteen tracks from the project. It also features Offset, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Durk, fellow New York-native Don Q, and more.
