Charitybuzz: Is it worth it?

Charitybuzz newsletters deliver to my email inbox often. However, until now, it didn’t seem like the kind of thing I could afford. Nor would it interest me. For more than a decade, I’ve been fortunate to brush shoulders with, work with, advise and eat meals with these people. So paying (tens of) thousands of dollars (to a third party) to be around my peers felt weird.

As a result, I thought: Why not donate to the charity directly? I couldn’t fathom it. I still can’t, but that doesn’t mean others shouldn’t know about Charitybuzz.

According to its website, “Charitybuzz is the place to find extraordinary experiences and luxuries to benefit remarkable charities making an impact.

Our online auctions bring together hundreds of the world’s most acclaimed celebrities, inspiring luminaries, and beloved brands to give you unforgettable access to your passions. Plus, every winning bid supports an incredible cause.

From walk-on roles with Hollywood A-listers to power lunches with Fortune 500 CEOs, when you join Charitybuzz every dream is a new way to make a difference.”

In today’s newsletter, Billy Joel is front and center. After bidding to make a difference, you and eleven of your friends could enjoy a luxury suite for a sold-out Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden. Currently, the bid is at $9,250 with eight days left to bid. Otherwise, the value of the experience is $20,000. Fourteen people placed a bid.

If Billy Joel isn’t your cup of tea, you can join Celine Dion at a show in Paris this Summer. If you’re into sports, you could head to Super Bowl LII to have the ultimate experience, and if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, you could bid to meet another star (Britney Spears) in Las Vegas at the end of the month.

Strangely enough, music doesn’t do it for you? Other categories include travel, business experiences, food and wine, fashion, art and collectibles, and wellness and beauty.
