ChapGato has 20/20 vision moving into the new year. ‘Richer Than My Opps’, his eight-song project from November 2019, showcases true lyrical skill and the gritty, confident delivery of someone who knows he has bars for days. ChapGato, or Gato for short, has the ability to put another Long Beach on the map; until now, Long Beach, California is the only Long Beach in Hip-Hop that holds the prestige of producing rap legends from Snoop Dogg to Vince Staples. Gato’s looking to do the same for New York, and the twenty-one minute long ‘Richer Than My Opps’ is a solid step in the right direction.
The single ‘Drip Walk’ is one viral dance video away from taking over 2020. ChapGato knows how to make a hook and deliver rapid yet easily memorizable lyrics. The fantastic beat selection spans the project and Gato delivers on every song; the inevitable head bop you find yourself doing after every drop is more than a good sign. Another highlight is the fiery ‘Rtmo Outro’. As soon as the beat starts, any student and lover of Hip-Hop knows Gato came in the studio to show out for the finale of his debut project. He barely takes a breath as he spits a sixteen with DaBaby-esque delivery for a minute straight, making you wish the song was longer. ChapGato’s in for a great year.
