At fifteen years old, most people aren’t as ‘in touch’ with their emotions as Billie Eilish. Some adult humans have trouble expressing themselves; leaving others around them to guess what’s in their heads. Look: If you are reading this, and you are doing that, you are not in the clear. Work that out. Be an adult. Seek professional help.
But back to the clear-cut individual that is Eilish. She is. I’m unsure if she writes all of her music with her older brother Finneas, but if she does, they are a great team. Her voice gets the message across. The budding recording artist’s debut EP will be out next month. The title is ‘dont smile at me’. Based on an interview she did with Billboard, Eilish doesn’t like to smile partially because of what she calls “an ugly little tooth.” Apparently, it was a joke, but I know what it is to be insecure about body parts and teeth. Especially, at that age.
Billie Eilish continued in an email to Tatiana Cirisano, saying, “I like to be in control of how I look…” For me, that’s the real issue. It is considered a courtesy to smile back at someone if they smile at you, and if she is insecure about her teeth, then, smiling back isn’t effortless. Deep, she is. Her parents are two actors and musicians. She started singing at the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. She was eight-years-old.
It is no mistake that Billboard announced the singer’s forthcoming debut tour. Over a year ago, I wrote about ‘Six Feet Under’. Then, I said she reminded me of Lorde and Lana Del Rey. She still does, and it’s good to know that my ears still work. Billboard said the same thing.
