Big Sean cruises on Metro Boomin production for thirty minutes. Stream “Double or Nothing” below.
T
his week, Big Sean and Metro Boomin released a joint project. “Double or Nothing” is a ten-track narrative of the Detroit-native’s life, what’s on his mind, and the love of his life. I wouldn’t say it is the best representation of Big Sean’s music, but it is introspective like the rest of his music.
Guest appearances come from other rap heroes like Travis $cott (‘Go Legend’), 2 Chainz (‘Big Bidness’), 21 Savage (‘Pull Up N Wreck’), Young Thug (‘Even The Odds’), and Swae Lee (‘Reason’). The only Detroiter to join the all-star cast is Kash Doll (‘So Good’).
Overall, I think Kash Doll’s verse is the most exciting thing on the project. She stayed on topic. She held her own, and it makes me want to research her more. On “Savage Time,” he talks about taking the water from Flint, MI to Washington, DC to make the President drink it. Also, I think the hook by Travis $cott on the track is fitting.
Chiefly, I think Big Sean and Metro Boomin collaborating is one of the best things to happen. I like Big Sean’s verse, but it’s a treat to hear him on the star producer’s work. I like how he’s still able to use multiple figures of speech to tell his story. Double entendres are bountiful on “Who’s Stopping Me?”
And without a doubt, Big Sean, let us into his bedroom. Jhené, we understand why you tattooed his face on your body. When a man treats you right, you show it back through your love language. It is your right to do what you want. Invite us to the wedding like the Davis’.
