On June 13, GRAMMY-nominated Jamaican music legend Barrington Levy and Sly & Robbie re-released ‘Praise His Name’, produced by George ‘Powerhouse’ Phang. Over the groovy bass line, the ‘Murderer’ singer praises his Lord God, Jah Rastafari, through the lyrics, asking the Children of Zion to be joyful in their king and to step forward in life at all times. The record was released in 1983 originally.
It has been twenty-four years since Levy dazzled Americans with his signature, sharp vocals on former Bad Boy Records artist Shyne’s ‘Bad Boyz’ and ‘Bonnie-n-Shyne’ (sampling him), but he lived in our speakers and hearts before then. Let’s celebrate the sixty-year-old Reggae Fusion star whilst he is still here, kicking it and working. Play all versions of the records above.
