Every year, former President Obama shares a year-end list of his favourite songs, movies and books. Without having to explain further, Mr Obama has award-winning taste in the arts. Including all cultures, styles, and age groups, it shows that he has a wide array of interests. Other Presidents have come and gone, but there’s no President—living or otherwise like Barack Obama. You may not know all of the musicians, authors, or directors on his list, yet it is a way to educate yourselves on culture beyond your own. Go ahead, do it. Listen to music, watch movie trailers, and excerpts for his favourite things! Unbeknownst to us, it just may help us combat racism. Understanding and immersing yourselves into other cultures bring back humanity.

As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved. It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before. Swipe through to see my best of 2018 list – I hope you enjoy reading, watching, and listening.
