Ava DuVernay could direct Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ movie

According to TheWrap, Marvel is recruiting writer, producer, and filmmaker, Ava DuVernay for their upcoming film. TheWrap says, DuVernay is in the running to direct, ‘Black Panther’, which is slated for release in summer 2018.

DuVernay is the director and co-writer of the award-winning film, ‘Selma’. The 2014 film was nominated for two Academy Awards, and four Golden Globes. With both ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ in the works, it looks as if Marvel is trying to create as much diversity behind the scenes as they are on screen.

Marvel is reportedly looking to hire an African-American director for ‘Black Panther’. If she is named director, DuVernay will be the first female and the first African-American to direct a Marvel movie. While the DuVernay has directed everything from an episode ‘Scandal’ to documentaries for ESPN, BET and TV One, this comic book film could be an exciting asset to her sprouting resume.
