#5NewVideos To Get You Through The Week: 8

This week’s #5NewVideos list consists of Darnell Williams, Phantogram, DUCKWRTH, and more.

Darnell Williams “Round Here” (Personal)

Like most aspiring artists, Darnell Williams wants to pull up in an expensive car and be the example for the young boys and men in his circle. The South Central-based artist new track “Round Here” is a composite of analogies that touch on various topics like business, professionalism, untruthfulness and recognizing a blessing when it is in front of you. Approximately, four months ago, the 23-year-old Detroit-native rapper slash director released “South Central” and followed me on Twitter. I’ve been listening to his music and watching his videos since.

Excuse me: If your grandmother carried a firearm, you’d get my attention too.

Sam Lao “Pineapple” (Personal)

First sighted in a music video for Blue, the Misfit, Sam Lao is a Dallas, Texas native singer-songwriter that celebrates feminity in her lyrics like Beyoncé and Leaf. Watch the tri-toned video for “Pineapple,” where you will see several beautiful women in a pineapple-themed setting.

Ducky “Bliss” (Personal)

Two young women dressed in all white clothing walk around town, take the train and end up in what seems to be a magical forest. Watch the Alexander Girav and Ross Constable-direction below for the surprise ending.

Phantogram “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” (Submitted)

In an unlikely video treatment, Sarah Barthel from Dream Pop-Electronica duo Phantogram is in the room that looks like it belongs to a set on Breaking Bad. Not much can be worst than losing that high; because we know what happens when people chase the feeling of that first high. Taking four instead of one to achieve the same euphoric feeling can often be dangerous.

Duckwrth “Get Uugly” featuring Georgia Anne Muldrow (Submitted)

For as long as I’ve been alive, eccentricity and creativity have dwelled on the same block and ate dinner in the same house. More than simple friends, they are blood relatives. It is quirky, distanced, forgotten and ‘ugly’ individuals who make real change in the industry and challenge social norms worldwide. Duckwrth is that, to me.
