This week’s #5NewVideos list consists of Mabel, Ro James, Fantasia, and more.
SG Lewis “Holding Back” featuring Gallant (Personal)
Some of my fondest memories, growing up, involve roller rinks and rollerskating. So when I watched SG Lewis’ new video for “Holding Back,” featuring Gallant, the visuals brought back the memories ten-fold. If you’re not familiar the sound, SG Lewis is a new artist from Liverpool, United Kingdom. Watch the video directed by John Merizalde below.
A’ yo, off to the rink I go.
Mabel “Thinking Of You” (Personal)
Daughter of Neneh Cherry and a damned good singer, Mabel, shared a new single and video with the world. “Thinking Of You” is a heavy-hitting R&B banger that serves angelic vocals and a chill vibe. It’s why I fell in love with R&B of this nature in the early 90s. I look forward to hearing more.
Ro James “Already Knew That” (Personal)
In a room full of beautiful women, booze, amazing fashion and hella smoke, R&B-Soul artist Ro James got my attention right away. It is some of my favorite things in this life. The party atmosphere set it off right for “Already Knew That.” It’s enough to make you want to listen to the full-length — ELDORADO — right after.
Fantasia “Sleeping With The One I Love” (Personal)
Counting her as one of the best vocalists in this thing called music would be the first order of business. In her new video for “Sleeping With The One I Love,” Fantasia plays multiple roles like Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor. As a whole, the song has an old-school sound — heartfelt vocals and relatable lyrics.
Dreezy “Close To You” featuring T-Pain (Personal)
Autotune and all, party people: Coming straight out of the Southside of Chicago is the super multi-talented artist Dreezy with a brand new single and video featuring the man himself T-Pain. It’s a sentimental song with great vocal style. To me, they complement one other well, and the visuals got the point across properly.
