While you were staring outside wondering when on Earth is Spring getting here, the long-awaited Roots Picnic 2015 lineup was released earlier today to make you even more anxious for warmer weather. For fans like me who have been making Google alerts, incessantly searching the #RootsPicnic2015 hashtag, and silently stalking Questlove and Black Thought’s Twitter accounts since the last picnic, the reveal couldn’t come soon enough. The lineup and details were announced exclusively through Billboard.com this morning.
Let’s talk about this lineup:
Who: Erykah Badu backed up by The Roots is enough for you to pull out your credit card and hit up Ticketmaster right now but there’s so much more in store for what Questlove says is the picnic’s most diverse lineup yet. The diversity of this year’s performers hits a spectrum of artists from Rae Sremmurda to Afrika Bambaata, DJs King Britt to DJ Mustard, and Hiatus Kaiyote to The Weeknd just to name a few. Also in the mix along with The Roots are A$AP Rocky, Phantogram, Hudson Mohawke, and more.
Where: The festival is back at the Festival Pier in Philadelphia, PA. It is completely outdoors with a first time third stage added this year.
When: Saturday, May 30
What’s to Love: In the Billboad interview, Quest mentions that his favorite thing about the picnic is that someone can buy a ticket to see their favorite artist and come out a new fan of someone unexpected. I can surely attest to that. Last year was my first time going. I went in pumped to finally see one of my absolute faves Janelle Monae, and came out a brand new fan of her artist Roman Gianarthur, as well as Electric Wire Hustle and Bad Rabbits. Although I am a die-hard Erykah Badu fan (Not gonna lie, I was crossing my fingers that she’d headline), I am really looking forward to hearing some artists that I’m not familiar with. Also, you never know who’s going to show up as The Roots Picnic has a history of bringing out surprise guests.
You know what’s also to love? Along with great music and (hopefully) great weather, Philly… freaking… water ice. Seriously, who doesn’t want tickets to that?
Speaking of tickets, here’s the deal:
Tickets to the general public go on sale at Ticketmaster Friday at noon, but if you are Citi Cardmember you can get those joints tomorrow at 10AM EST. Live Nation presale is on Thursday.
