My Interview with artist Reallionaire Jream

Blurb from Jazzlyn Kirkland:

Tuesday, August 24th. That’s today’s date, what does this day mean? Not much to most people, but for me, today is the day that I get a chance to sit down and talk to Reallionaire Jream.

Born into this world as Jerime Shelton, a great new artist that is bringing the authenticity back to Hip-Hop. Reallionaire hails from the fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada (and yes, that was in my infomercial voice) and has spent most of his youth in a small town in Illinois by the name of “Alton” or better know by him as “A Little Town Of Ni***s” (laughs).

Jerime is a very light-hearted person with an amazing personality and has the ability to turn even the most skeptical person into a fan. RJ has also been able to rock crowds in famous venues such as The House of Blues, The Beauty Bar (Las Vegas), and even New York’s oldest open mic event, End of the Weak. I am really happy that I got the opportunity to chat up Reallionaire Jream and I am going to share that conversation with you, my fellow GrungeCakers, so… come on!

MP3: “I Ain’t Ready Yet” by Reallionaire Jream

GrungeCake: So what’s going on Mr. Jream? How have you been?

Reallionaire Jream: I’m doing great. I just returned to the U.S. I spent some time over in Europe.

GrungeCake: Awesome, What were you out in Europe doing?

Reallionaire Jream: Actually, I was in Europe doing some shows, seeing the sights, observing the culture, I stayed in South Germany and while I was there, I got a chance to get a lot of writing done. It was my first time out there and I really enjoyed myself. I’m planning on heading back over in October for October Fest (smiles).

GC: So, I guess your really liking the European vibe.

RJ: Yes.

GC: How are the audiences over there compared to the states?

RJ: Pretty good actually. I like the fact that most of the people in their audience aren’t really familiar with me. It seems like those people are the ones that are more receptible [?] to listening. I’m something new and I love being the new kid.

GC: Right on! So, I’ve got a question that I’ve been dying to ask — since I found out about you. What’s your name all about, Can you please give me the rundown on that?

RJ: Good one (laughing). I’d be delighted to answer that for you. Well I was sitting around, about to load my music onto a site and I started thinking:

Hmm… I don’t have a “name” yet. Then, I went to brainstorm and it came about like this:
My mother’s astrological sign is Leo and my fathers’ an Aries… so, lionare came from the combination of that. I thought that going with the same theme: my parents and how they are something very “real” in my life, that’s where Reallionaire started. As for the Jream part, that is simply how my name has always been mispronounced, because it is spelled Jerime. Ta da! You’ve got yourself Reallionaire Jream.

GC: Wow! Seriously, that’s way deeper than I initially thought.

RJ: Yep, It’s real!

GC: So, when did you realize you wanted to become an MC?

RJ: I’ve always had the desire to write and when I was young, it started out as jotting some things down on a flashcard, and then, the flashcards started filling up and they turned into pages. When I was in college, I started journaling and writing poetry and that’s when it all began.

GC: So why should the readers of GrungeCake listen to Reallionaire, You’ve got 10 seconds. Sell your self… Go!

RJ: (Laughs) I’m in this to make honest and authentic music. What I talk about has an underlying common ground for people to relate to, and its good music to bump to that also has that straight to the heart intensity.

GC: Times up! Good job. What’s next for you?

RJ: I’m in the process of doing a mix tape due out in October called “The Jraft”.

GC: That’s what’s up, so do you have any closing words for the readers Mr. Jream?

Reallionaire Jream: This is why I’m fly gravity, and I made a deal / Said I could defy him as long as I bring it real / [This is] from the song “Collison” off of my first album.

There we go, Reallionaire Jream folks. I really hope you guys go check him out. Links are below. If you’re going to be in South Germany in October, come down and see Reallionaire live!

Yesterday, Monday August 2, 2010, GrungeCake Magazine covered Kosha Dillz’s show at Le Poisson Rouge in the West Village of New York City. Joined by some of the greatest entrepreneurs and musicians, we were intrigued by domestic interior design, the acts, the night, and the performance of our friends! Stay tuned for footage.

Kosha Dillz warms up the crowd before he starts his set: tells us who is he, where he’s from, talks to his fans, introduces his band, thanks fellow musician Kyle Rapps for the water, mentions Twitter, pokes fun at the name “Le Poisson Rouge”, and gets right into it!

*A live EPK at its finest. New artists learn from him.

Blurb from YAMS:

I’ve known Dai(nene) for a few years. The first time I interviewed her, we talked about her dance moves to Lil’ Mama’s songs, now she dances to her own music. Dai Burger is a smokin’ New York City live performer who raps, sings, dances, and works at Patricia Fields. She is so hot, I decided to give her the cover of GrungeCake Magazine’s newest magazine, “The Delivery” Monthly!

In this issue, Dai Burger talks to GrungeCake about her new free music release, “MyMixxxyTape“, her beginnings, how she plans to deliver as a new artist, what makes her a “wild thing“, and more!

This issue also features over 50 exclusive photos of Dai Burger, free mp3s and a free poster! Listen to my 4 favourite tracks below. To download the whole tape, click here. Thank you.

The Rabbit and its Tricks

Rabbits: when thinking about the animal two adjectives come to mind: swift and fluffy. I’m unsure if it’s Miike Snow’s intention. Then, of course, other things come to mind: Bugs Bunny, Fatal Attraction, the tortoise, the hare and the character from Winnie the Pooh. Oh, how television has an affect!

“The rabbit” often, portrayed as the trickster, sly character who uses swiftness and tricks to win [a competition], never wins. Does that relate to this video? Is it supposed to? After all, the rabbit does have antelope or deer ears. (Shrugs) Miike Snow, what the fuck?

We’ve posted this video on our Facebook fan page a few weeks ago. Our fans didn’t have too much to say about it. In conclusion, I have been reading comments by others on multiple websites: ie: magazines, blogs, and music outlets have denounced the video offensive, not pairing with the song, etc. How do I defend that? Am I supposed to?

I believe the director shot a music video “contrary” to the vibe of the song or genre to in fact, make you watch the video! It is a great video. I love love love the quality, the treatments, the director’s cuts, the way we don’t hear what the actors are saying, you focus on the video and the music installs in you, because it is the only thing you are hearing.

It’s like how I remember the first time I heard a specific song according to the place I was and whom I was with. It did a damned great job of infusing that to me.

Before this moment, I didn’t know who Miike Snow was, but quickly, I became a fan. Watch the music video below [again] to fall in with me, just one more time.

July 30th 2010, Brussels – Malaysian electropop singer Ze! premieres new music video “Boys I Like” simultaneously in 5 different cities around the globe at midnight tonight.

“Boys I Like” was shot in Hollywood last April by a team of new and upcoming film directors collectively known as Schlub Films. Ze! met director Eugene Lee back in 2008 when she was participating in an Asian Talent Show called, Sutasi in which Lee was a host. The two decided to work together on this music video when Ze! visited LA, stayed in Lee’s apartment and met his friendly group of actor-friends.

“Working with the Schlubs was a lot of fun” says Ze!. “They’re a hyperactive bunch with an eternity of ideas. They’ve done a few really good short films but it was their first time producing a music video, which was maybe what made the process even more exciting.”

“Hanging out with Eugene’s friends was a great experience as it gave me an insight as to what life is really like as actors. The annoying thing is they’re all amazing actors which only made me feel like a goofball on set. They were at least nice enough not to laugh at me.”

‘Boys I Like’ is written by Ze! and producer Ruben Debusschere; a track taken off of Ze!’s new electro-pop album I Am Glam and was the first single released in 2007 along with 3 remixes. I Am Glam is distributed worldwide by Believe Digital and now available for download via all major digital music stores including iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Napster, Nokia Music Store and more.

Though, we wish there was more dialogue from Ze! cause her [talking] voice is cute, we really enjoyed this video. Our favourite look: Ze! in her red bra!. We love your choice, honey. We would have chosen the man with the Ze! thunderbolt, too! It’s all about branding baby! (Sticks tongue out)

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Grum since watching the music video for “Can’t Shake This Feeling” (see below). “Heartbeart” filled with big-beat synths, (all that other music jargon that I cannot make my own) and good-time head nods has to be my favourite on my Grum playlist. It sounds like a new wave [La] “Macarena” that you want to chronically-vogue-to and-end-your-routine-with-a-running-man-split! I also hear he is a Scotsman. (winks) For more about Grum, click here.

About Grum

The best artists in the world start from the ground up. You see a tiny review, you hear about them from your friends, then you see something in the street. A flyer, sticker, poster, something; connections are made.

That was fine when there was a record store on every High Street. When an artist connected, picking up their record was as simple as buying a loaf of bread. The internet has completely changed all that. It might be far easier to get hold of your new favourite single but some of the connections have been lost. Who even knows what most single covers look like? Who remembers the flyer when they’re browsing the blogs?

Grum, the UK’s most important new dance producer is the first artist to change all that, revolutionising the way the public interact with music.

The artwork is a pioneering design, developed by David Ross, the artistic and creative brains behind Mylo’s ‘Destroy Rock N Roll’ poster and artwork campaigns. For Grum he has incorporated a unique 2-D Barcode into the artwork, which when photographed by your mobile phone (using the appropriate application) takes you directly to the music where you can hear great quality streamed versions of the track, with an option to buy there and then. A fully interactive experience for fans to get the music they want, when they want it. See the poster on the street or an advert in a mag, snap the logo, and get direct to the music. There’s already massive interest with mobile phone providers and software programmers to develop this idea, but Grum got there first. The revolution starts here!

My brother Fulvio, founder and CEO of ReddArmy presented his new music video to me and immediately I fell in love with the fun visuals. Though, the lyrics aren’t in English, I am sure the melody will keep you interested and watching. We are already singing the hook over here. Hahahah.

About Madrac:

A four man combo dealing with funk, hip hop, electronics somewhere between Outkast, Daft Punk, and some unsuspectable rockish attitude for an electronic band.

Madrac has made two albums in Furlan, a local minoritarian language, which had very good reviews on a national basis despite the uncomprehensible language. Were the first ReddArmy band to be aired on national TV.

‘Having been closed in the studio from 2007 to now for “that difficult third album”, named “L’esercito del sole” (the army of the sun), possibly the biggest effort in the whole ReddArmy, and will feature some (yet undisclosed) major italian artists and two international artists from the caribbean seas.

Founded by ReddKaa, ReddArmy’s founder and CEO, they include MattiaC, a keyboard player that sounds like a solo guitarist, Kappah, which deals with twisted electronics and wonky beats as his “twin brother” Railster does, and young rock singer Zanna, that substituted ReddKaa on vocals.
