Headlined “Enough with the Leggings! Why Resin Makes Us Want to Wear Jeans Again“, Chelsea Zalopany writes about how the designers met, what makes them different in the cult pool of jean designers, how much their brand costs, the connection with Paper Denim & Clothing, the fit and last, but definitely not least, our love Ibrahim Ahmed III’s contribution to the jeans. See my interview with Mr. Ahmed by kindly clicking here.

From Vogue.com written by Chelsea Zalopany:

There is something indubitably American about (a) denim and (b) two brainy, hustling New York City hipsters. Chantel Valentene, a native of Brooklyn, first met the small-town Louisianan Durango Adams while they were both studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After five years of freelance designing, these self-proclaimed “denim-heads” quietly launched their jeans line, Resin—you might have stumbled across it in Barneys—at the end of last year—with the help of friend and co-founder of Paper Denim & Cloth Chris Gilbert. “We all brainstormed for months on why there needs to be another denim brand in the market,” says Valentene.
Clearly they thought one does. What separates Resin from the glut of denim labels is its inventive approach to the most utilitarian fabric on the planet. The name of the brand derives from their use of synthetic resins (usually it’s a natural substance found in plants and trees). “Resin, the chemical solution, changed the face of the denim industry from the basic stone and acid washes of the eighties to the crisp and gloss-coated unwashed denim of today,” explains Valentene.

Technicalities aside, it’s evident they’re doing something right from the looks of the brand’s body-hugging burnished skinny, the Lariat ($148), which is manipulated to instantly feel worn-out while being soft to the touch. Or their subtly washed black-garnet signature skinny jean, the Catalyst ($154). The Artisan denim trouser ($154)—which brought them to our attention—takes its cue from menswear. “We’ve relaxed the fit and shortened the length to keep it sexy yet comfortable,” says Adams. There is an artsy (installment artist Ibrahim Ahmed III designed artwork for the pocket linings) and organic feel to the label, which is as effortlessly cool as this pair of jeans-obsessed designers.

When Nico made the connection, it was official. His subjects, composition, props, and tones are attractive. Every time I sit and read his work, I feel like I am in a music video. I hear music when I look and read his work. We are now chummy. Go figure. (Laughs) For Nico’s great port, click here. The background has been devoted to Nico Stinghe. I hope you enjoy his work.

Another Side Walk’s Mission Statement:

A photography and video studio of mental movement, a life documentary and interpretation body. Anothersidewalk is a creative studio.

GrungeCake: Your photographs embody fun, illusive and dreamy, jovial, flexibility times through a lifestyle subject. Does your personality reflect your masterpieces?

Nico Stinghe: Photography is very simple, the beautiful part of it is that it let’s you go wherever you want physically and mentally and contact whoever you want, if you are a curious person you should be a photographer.

GrungeCake: It seems you share a love for geometric shapes. Is there any deep reasoning behind the shapes or was it thee ol’ designer’s trial and error?

Nico Stinghe: Abstract! I never realized this until you told me. I could maybe go back in time and analyze parents, forms, courses, games I would play. One day I was on a sofa and I remembered a game I used to play on the TV and this guy sitting on the other sofa told me, “I would never play it.” How did he knew, it was just a thought.

GrungeCake: Cooley said, “An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.” Is this what fuels you to create so beautifully?

Nico Stinghe: I had problems admitting I was a photographer and still cannot say I am an artist. Now I say I’m a photographer and the artistic side I’m still confused with understanding it. Imagine: I have to think about my profession and describe it. I generally like to let things go, not have control over, and improvise with what is around.

I personally prefer less people near us, more energy, less perfection. It’s important to let people go into their imaginary and forget the most possible. And not explain too much stuff.

GrungeCake: Being an artist, we usually criticize our work 12,000 times over before we release it to our pets. Are you completely satisfied with the campaign you have created with the two fashion industry giants Adidas and Diesel?

Nico Stinghe: There was quite a team behind this campaign. I like the results very much.

GrungeCake: The city of Montreal has a photographer to boast about from today into the next 10 decades. You are rather large on the Internet. Are you aware of your e-presence? Do you type your name/s in the search engines sometimes?

Nico Stinghe: Such an intimate question! And nice compliments! Thank you!

GrungeCake: What were your beginnings like?

Nico Stinghe: A mix of science and spirituality.

GrungeCake: Do current photographers in your league inspire you?

Nico Stinghe: I prefer paintings to photography. And at the end I prefer photography to paintings because it has constraints, the laws of physics. And the psychology of the model and mine. I also prefer portrait photography.

GrungeCake: I feel it is odd to ask a photographer which tools they utilize to create, but could you share what brand you prefer to shoot with and if you are content with the state of digital photography?

Nico Stinghe: I use Canon cameras and now thinking of getting a large format camera and just bought a 35mm Konica. I have no idea what’s on the film inside it yet. I used a webcam once to filma NYC train. Ill show it to you. It’s nice.

GrungeCake: Anothersidewalk is a name that I cannot forget. Have you done this to me on purpose?

Nico Stinghe: Yes, thank you for the feedback! I won one point.

GrungeCake: How did you find GrungeCake? What do you think about our name?

Nico Stinghe: I always look for interesting links, what people do. For sure, I found it after I typed my name in Google and we were two clicks away. The name is great! I like the Grunge part!

GrungeCake: What’s next for Nico Stinghe?
